"Kampong Sungai Kedayan, another one of the oldest wards besides Burong Pingai and Kampong Saba, This ward situated on the south western tip of the grands Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque. In this war formerly, and the some degree today, lived principal traders, money lenders, goldsmiths and many non-noble dignitaries. In this ward there is a legend of Javanese prince and other palace officials who came to settle here and began forty different types of handicrafts and metalwork, some of which remain until now. It is this ward that today some of the highest Menteri (non-noble palace officials) still live. However the ward at present classified into smaller wards designed as Sungai Kedayan A and Sungai Kedayan B, Before the official designation, Sungai Kedayan A was until recently known as Kampong Pandai Amas (ward of goldsmiths). Kampong Pandai Amas identification with Sungai Kedayan, its origin and associations. While Sungai Kedayan B was previously called Kampong Penyalambau, this change made ini 1964 was probably for the reason that the occupation-name did not anymore indicate a specialization relevant to members of the ward. Considering that both wards were previously called by different names, where then does the name Sungai Kedayan fit? I would rather assume that Pandai Amas was an unregocnised ward within Kampong Sungai Kedayan and its existence was due to the frequent usage of the occupation the members professed. The origin of the name Sungai Kedayan is quite irrelevant to the local history of the ward itself. The ward named after the river where Kedayan, a hill Malay people, used to go up and down the river."
